During High School

  • Get to know your guidance counselor
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities
  • Keep your grades up
  • Take college preparation courses
  • Visit college campuses (esp. during the summer)

Sophomore Year

  • Make sure your class schedule includes college requirements (foreign language, math, English, science)
  • Research careers and start thinking about your interests and goals

Junior Year

  • Take the PSAT: This test lets you know how prepared you are for the ACT/SAT
  • Visit college campuses and request admissions information

Senior Year

  • Take the ACT and/or SAT by fall of your senior year
  • Request that your transcripts and test scores be sent to colleges
  • Start drafting your College Admissions Essay
  • Request applications from the colleges that interest you
  • Ask your teachers and mentors to write Letters of Recommendation on your behalf
  • Fill out the FAFSA during the spring of your senior year
